SECTION OF MESSINA

AISM Messina has been present in the area since 1986 and, since its founding, has been committed to preventing the conditions of marginalization and social discomfort brought about by the disease, encouraging processes of integration and social participation and helping to improve the quality of life of people with multiple sclerosis.
In 2002, the Messina Section deployed all its resources to implement the "Mare Aperto" project: a national pilot project (under L 162/98), which rekindled in many people with disabilities the hope of experiencing an accessible vacation, providing hundreds of families to enjoy the beautiful sea of Sicily at the Lido Open Sea in Milazzo (ME).
To make its action increasingly widespread in the vast territory of the province of Messina, the Section has established three Operational Groups (Milazzo, Ionian and Nebrodi), and four Association Points (Barcellona, Patti, Brolo, Sant'Agata Militello). This has enabled AISM's action to reach even people with MS who reside in locations far from the capital city.
All the components of the Section(counselors, volunteers, collaborators, young people in National Civil Service), every day, provide energy, enthusiasm, and professionalism to build a world free of multiple sclerosis.
